In the protocols of the years 1611 and 1612 about abominable witch trials on the orders of the abbess Johanna von Wiltz of the monastery Fraulautern, people from Obersalbach are mentioned. Obersalbach belonged to the Catholic parish of Reisweiler, which was subordinate to the collature of Fraulautern Abbey. Sentenced to death, then strangled and burned on the Katzenberg in Schwarzenholz, were the two Obersalbach women: Elsa, the wife of the shearer Michel, and Heppen Katharina. Furthermore, Margaret, Mathis Kiefer's housewife, and the widow Barbara Meyer from Obersalbach were denounced as witches. However, it is not known whether they were tried or convicted.
